One of the videos that never fail to make Internet denizens laugh is the scene from the movie Father en Son where Dolphy’s character is shooting a commercial for the fictitious Banayad Whisky. He already nailed the ad in one take, but the director keeps asking for more takes, and because Dolphy’s character was drinking actual liquor, he gets increasingly drunk as the scene progresses.
Personally, my favorite line in this video is “Lasang blade!”
The scene gets a chuckle out of everyone, and I’ve also spotted Banayad Whisky stickers in the wild, but I just found out that there’s a speakeasy featuring the famed fictitious drink turned into reality. Banayad Whisky Bar serves premium whisky made in Scotland, and the bottle labels and boxes all feature Dolphy’s face. I took a look at their Facebook page and found out that Dolphy’s family seems to be behind the bar. It’s a cute tribute to the Quizon patriarch and Comedy King. I’m not a drinker so I likely won’t ever make it to the bar, which looks like a cozy, intimate space from the outside, but it’s nice to know that it exists.
