The news that McDonald’s Quezon Avenue is now closed hit me really hard when I first heard about it. This was the first McDonald’s I ever went to, where my mother would order hotcakes for breakfast or bring me for a sundae cone and a McSpaghetti after school. This is where we went for a field trip for the Young Homemakers’ Club in school.

I shared the news with a friend who lived near the area when we were younger and she was just as devastated as I was, especially because many of the establishments we grew up with had already been torn down and replaced.

While I was taking photos, it was nice to see that I wasn’t alone. There was a pair of women around my age, and one of them told me that she used to go to that McDonald’s a lot as a kid. And just before I left, a car was lingering in the area. I think it’s safe to assume that whoever was in it was also taking pictures or perhaps just sitting there, thinking about their own memories of the place.
Another McDonald’s has opened along Quezon Avenue corner Ligaya, which seems to be a replacement for the branch that closed, and every time I pass by, I mutter, “You will never be her.” But I expect the new branch will be home to many memories for other people, so there’s a nice thought.
