A lot of people tend to be pretty doom and gloom when it comes to Ever Gotesco Commonwealth, with some saying a few years ago that the whole thing was about to be acquired by other SM or Ayala Malls. That’s why it came as a little bit of a surprise when, several years ago, construction started on a new portion of Ever, and what emerged was Calle Bistro, a nod to what the area was before, which was a road for vehicles passing through Ever and picking up and dropping off shoppers. I suppose it’s kind of a declaration that Ever is not going anywhere. I like it. It’s nice to see malls that AREN’T SM, Ayala, or Robinsons.
Calle Bistro has since been a very busy place. A few restaurants may have come and gone (goodbye Honey Glaze, Ima Kitchen, Starbucks, Tim Hortons), but a lot of new ones have sprung up, and one of them is Yappari Steak.
The place caught my eye as it was being built, and I promised to myself that I’ll check it out as soon as I can—which happened a couple of weeks ago.
Check out my short video of our lunch at Yappari Steak!
Yappari Steak apparently came from Okinawa, with 25 branches there alone and 70 overall in Japan, and has branches in Singapore, Australia, and the Philippines. Their website talks about how there’s supposedly an Okinawan custom eating steak after drinking and that the prefecture’s capital city of Naha has a lot of restaurants serving steak late into the night, which I suppose inspired them to come up with Yappari Steak. “Yappari” means “as I thought” or “I knew it,” so I’m not quite sure how the name fits … ?
We got the 150 g yappari steak (it’s available in 100, 150, and 200 g) and the gyukatsu, plus a side of macaroni salad. The incredibly meat comes on lava stone plates and is served rare on hot lava stone plates, so you can cook it to your preferred doneness. It’s simply seasoned with salt, but feel free to add the provided sauces: soy sauce, garlic sauce, onion sauce, and wasabi. I have to admit the wasabi is the weakest of the bunch. There are also other sauces available at the condiment counter.
Anyway, after writing all that, all I really have to say is, our lunch was great and will 100% be back for more.
