Instances of food waste and unsold harvests of fruits and vegetables make the news from time to time, and the public is usually called upon to help farmers unload their products. This situation is exactly what inspired Ace and Andie Estrada to establish Rural Rising during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rural Rising makes it easy for people to buy their fruits and vegetables directly from farmers, helping them out in the process, and also discover new and heirloom produce. They announce what’s new on their page or if any rescue buys are ongoing and people can either swing by their physical locations or purchase produce online.
One of my first times buying from them was when they announced a garlic rescue buy, and I picked up my purchase from their old location along Congressional Avenue. They currently have branches in West Triangle, Quezon City, and in Mandaluyong, and a couple of weeks back, we stopped by their West Triangle branch to pick up a few veggies.
It’s a house turned veggie pickup point, and they have a few parking spots out front. Upon entering the gate, you’ll see a board with a list of what’s available that day, and then you make your way to the covered area with stacks of produce.
Check out my video of Rural Rising below.
It’s pretty nice shopping for produce there and knowing that Philippine farmers are benefiting from your purchase. Rural Rising in Quezon City is located at 79 Sgt. Esguerra, West Triangle. Check out their website to shop there directly and get updates on new produce they’ve acquired, as well as any sudden rescue buys.
